Dressing For An Office-Free Lifestyle

If you’re lucky enough to work from home, chances are you’ve had one or two days when you haven’t bothered getting your of your pajamas! Of course, the novelty of that soon wears off, but you can begin to realize that you don’t have to get dressed up to go to work. Still, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get dressed up to go to work, even if nobody sees you all day. And if you’re getting dressed up for work, then why not take work with you and enjoy an afternoon out of the house?

Taking your home office with you isn’t hard. You just need your iPad, or maybe a netbook. Wireless keyboards are small and compact and will work with any of your mobile devices. You can find drop leg bags to carry your favorite device safely and securely while you’re out and about too. It’s good to have something that will protect your belongings should you be caught in a sudden downpour.

What about your jacket? To avoid carrying too much in your bag, opt for a stylish jacket with a cute rimmed hood and big pockets. This will save your hair from getting wet, and provide just enough space for the odd phone, pen, or notebook. You might even have a beauty mag with you to read during your lunch break!

While you’re out of the house, you might be walking a couple of miles around the mall or between coffee shops. Pick heels, because they look really good, but stop at about three inches to spare your poor feet. If you’re meeting with colleagues or even clients, you want an outfit that screams professional but is still all about your style. If you love A-line skirts, pick one with a full hem finish and matching jacket. If you love plunge blouses, then grab your favorite one off the hanger and add a cute scarf and cardigan. Gorgeous.

What would you ordinarily wear to the office? Perhaps your employer had a dress code? Whatever you used to wear, aim for something even better now. You’re not in the office anymore, so you can make a real statement with your outfit. You could wear bolder colors, brave more daring cuts, and make the most of all those makeup applicators. Go with something wilder and brighter than ever.

You don’t have to dress casually just because your lifestyle has become more casual. If you prefer, you could dress up even more than you used to in the office. And if you work for yourself, your style could easily become your brand. Pick interesting as well as practical accessories. They don’t have to be unique but see what you can find that might turn a few heads. If you’re looking for a statement piece, why not have an outfit tailored just for you?

Do you work from home a lot? Are you a professional that works alone quite often? Don’t let it get you down. Dress up and love the opportunity to wear what you like most.

I love being able to take my home office with me. As well, as a writer I adore sitting in coffee shops and observing people. I am not a heel kind of gal so I wear flats or a slight heel. Usually I wear slacks and a casual flowy shirt.
