These Are the Foundations of a Well-fitting Outfit

Getting an outfit to fit right is never as easy as you hope it would be. What makes it especially difficult is that every clothing brand has slightly different sizes and fits. Just finding a pair of jeans that feels comfortable and looks great can be a trial of huge proportions. If you want an outfit to fit well, you need to put some thought and effort into what you choose to wear. Sometimes a well-fitting outfit is more important than ever, such as when you’re buying a suit for the office or attending a wedding. Getting it right means having to do a few different things.

Choosing for Your Shape

One of the most important things to do if you want clothes to fit well is to think about your shape. The fit and the material of the clothes you choose can make a big difference when you’re considering what’s right for you. For example, perhaps you have a larger bust but a smaller waist. If you buy a shift dress, it could result in the material falling in a straight line from your bust and erasing your waist. It might even make you look pregnant. You need to think about how the fabric clings or falls, and about how the clothing itself is designed to fit you.

The Right Underwear

Any outfit needs a good foundation, and this includes having the right underwear for the job. However, it’s not all about wearing control-top panties to hold everything in. You need underwear that fits you well, feel great, and gives you the lines you want. The right lingerie set will help to give you the silhouette you’re looking for and work well with your clothes. You don’t want to have the sides of your bra visible under your arms or the back poking out over your top. You don’t want to have your panties squeezing you in all the wrong places.

Try It On

This might seem like an obvious thing to say, but trying on clothes before you buy them is essential. Many people don’t bother so much anymore, as it’s so easy to buy things online. Some people order several sizes and return the ones that don’t fit, while others simply keep whatever they bought, even if it’s a little ill-fitting. You need to not only try things on but to do it correctly. Wear the right underwear for trying on items, and try them how you intend to wear them. If you want to wear a pair of jeans with sneakers, don’t try them on wearing heels.

Getting Your Clothes Tailored

All of those celebrities you see with perfectly fitting clothes? It’s pretty unlikely that they magically manage to fit into them right off the rack. Sure, they have personal trainers to help keep them trim, and they can afford designer clothes. But, chances are, they also get their clothes tailored. They have themselves measured and get their clothes adjusted so that they fit in the right places. You might already do a little of this already. Maybe you always need to get your jeans taken up or dresses nipped in at the waist. You can consider doing it for more clothes, especially if you want them to last a long time.

A well-fitting outfit takes some effort to achieve, but it’s worth it to look and feel great.
