At Home Movie Marathon

Sunday morning and we felt like going to the movies. But then we opened our windows and what do we see? Rain! All of a sudden our mood changed from let’s-get-ready-to-see-a-movie to eh-I-just-want-to-stay-home 😁

My 5 year old had her mind set for movies in the theater and she was pretty upset when she realized it wasn’t going to happen anymore. But who am I to stop that from happening? So, Mommy to the rescue. I told her to stay with her Grammie while I “go get Daddy some food”. Of course, Daddy’s food wasn’t at the Dollar store!

I wanted her to feel the theater vibe in our bedroom and so I made sure I have all the things I need. Whenever we go to the theater, she always get the hotdog in bun, so off to the grocery I went. Got her some hotdog buns and Oscar Mayer Selects Angus Beef Uncured Beef Franks. I love this brand because not only are they inexpensive but they do not have nitrates or nitrites that are dangerous for the health. Learn how to cook hot dogs just like the theater here.

Then off to the Dollar store I went. As we know, we can pretty much live off of the stuff we can get from the Dollar store. I knew they had everything I need to make this experience for my daughter memorable – and they did not disappoint.

First off, you can’t watch a movie without tickets

and money, well play money in this case 😉

After getting your tickets, where do you go next? Yep, concessions…YUM! Dollar store has a ton of name brand chips and candies. We have a popcorn machine at home but we were missing popcorn containers, so……

TA-DA!!!

I got these Dollar amount stickers as well so I can stick it to the food items and then she pretends to buy them using her play money. So as you can see above, the popcorn is $10, yes a bit expensive if I say so LOL.

I also printed out coloring pages of the movies we were going to watch and let her color them while I went out. Then we stick it on the wall so we can see them before we enter the theater. So today’s shows included:

  • Sing
  • Trolls
  • The Good Dinosaur

The movie marathon was a success! My girl was so happy and at the end of the third movie, she told me “This is the best day ever!” Words that will make your heart skip a beat.

As you can see, it doesn’t take too much effort and spend too much money to do a DIY movie marathon at home. It was a fun process and the surprise look on her face was definitely priceless.
